In celebration of Porsche's 60 years in North America, PCNA is looking for the oldest of each model.  Here's the web site, and details:

We are on the search for the oldest Porsche vehicles sold in America! If you own and can officially verify the retail age of your Porsche, you are invited to enter your car in one of the categories that include the oldest 356, 911, 912, 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayenne, Carrera GT and Cayman. Your Porsche will be featured on this website and receive a special badge from the Porsche Museum. The oldest American-retailed cars from each of the 12 models may be photographed and included in the American exhibit at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany. One vehicle may be selected to be displayed in the Porsche exhibit at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.

Those with '92 models might wish to enter.  Jeff Coe, do you know who has the earliest cab and coupe?

I'll be entering! I have the ninth cab built and have only ones older that I have seen are the 8th cab and the 7th and 8th coupe. We'll see.
How can you tell the age? (Dumb question, I'm sure.) It must be in the VIN, but how can you tell if it's the oldest in the U.S.?

Check the production date on the driver's door jam VIN sticker. You'll find the month and year in the upper right hand corner of the sticker. Porsche started 968 production in September of 1991.

That's fantastic, Jeff -- the badge couldn't go to a bigger 968 champion. You gotta post a photo when you get it. You gonna mount or save it?

I got my medal this weekend and a nice letter. It weighs a lot and came with a mounting kit. I will put it away.

Some I'm just curious, are the last 3 of your VIN 009?  Excellent win!  I just came across this and looked at mine, looking like 103 for me.

Rich, No, Porsche reserves the first 60 of each VIN for research vehicles so the first VIN for each car and year is always 61 when it comes to 968s. My VIN is NS840069, 9th cab for 1992 (indicated by the N). It has a build date of September 1991 based on the door jam VIN sticker.

Check that door jam VIN sitcker and in the upper right hand corner you'll find you build month and year. As for how it compares to others, ask me and I'll tell you as I have full databases for the North American cars. I'll need your year, coupe or cab, and the last three digits of your VIN.

92 968 built in September of 91 with vin ending in 078 thus I assume I am number 18.  Cobalt Blue Metallic.
